Architect and researcher Federica Sanchez explores how neuroscience can inform the design of spaces we live, meet, and heal in — revealing the subtle but powerful ways our environments shape our minds, emotions, and behaviours. In this talk, she invites us to rethink architecture not just as shelter, but as a form of care. In an increasingly overstimulated world, she proposes a new paradigm: one that fosters presence and empathy by designing with the brain in mind. Architect and researcher in neurosciences applied to architecture, she graduated in Architecture at the Politecnico of Milan and the Technical University of Delft, and obtained a Postgraduate Master in 'Neuroscience applied to Architectural Design' at IUAV. She takes part of NuArch, a research project in collaboration with the Institute of Neurosciences of the CNR of Parma, and collaborates with MySpace Lab, a research center of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience of the University of Lausanne. As a designer she worked in Japan and the Netherlands, then returned to Italy and focused on the connection between the world of architecture and that of neuroscience, both in research and application in architectural projects. Since 2020 within the Neuroscience Lab at Lombardini22 in fact, she is a project manager and collaborates with several Italian universities, coordinating 3 doctorate programs. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
